Whoops! Pfizer Vaccine Eats Victims

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – It’s only been a few days of mass vaccination in the UK, but there has been some unpleasant news. Pfizer’s covid-19 vaccine, which was used by the British government, turned out to have caused allergies to the first batch of vaccine recipients recently.

As quoted from AFP On Wednesday (September 12), British health officials finally issued a warning for all people who will be vaccinated with Pfizer’s Covid-19 vaccine. People with a history of excessive allergic reactions will not receive the vaccine.

This warning comes after reports that two members of the country’s National Health Service (NHS) suffer from allergic reactions that require treatment. The two people are among the first to receive the vaccine in the UK.

NHS UK Medical Director Stephen Powis said the two people had a history of allergies. But now both have begun to improve their conditions.

He also mentioned that the independent Medicines and Health Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) had suggested that people with major allergic reactions should not receive this vaccine as prevention, after this case.

These major allergic reactions include medications, foods, or vaccines.

Pfizer said it had received reports from the MHRA of an allergic reaction. However, they said that during the phase 3 trial of more than 40,000 people, the clinical trial report said the vaccine was generally well tolerated without serious safety concerns.

As is known, Great Britain became the first country in the west to receive a Covid vaccine after this vaccine received emergency approval. It is also noted that it is the largest vaccine administered in the country since 1948.

Technically, this vaccine is given in two doses 21 days apart. The top priority of administering this vaccine is for healthcare workers and social workers, as well as for people over the age of 80.

The UK has received up to 800,000 doses out of a total order of 40 million doses for the vaccine discovered by Pfizer and BioNTech.

Pfizer Chief Executive Officer Albert Bourla said he understands the global concern over the speed with which pharmaceutical companies are producing a Covid-19 vaccine. But he insisted there were no shortcuts.

“The vaccine has been tested in exactly the same way that we test any vaccine that is circulating out there,” he told a virtual press conference in Geneva on Tuesday (8/12/2020).
