Police said that the people who released information about the FPI special laskar guarding Habib Rizieq and who attacked the police on the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road were not armed with fires, could be sentenced for spreading false news. The FPI also ruled on this matter.

“Yes, it is an arbitrary law, abuse of power“said the FPI Undersecretary General, as well as Habib Rizieq’s lawyer, Aziz Yanuar, when contacted by journalists, on Wednesday (9/12/2020).

Aziz was reluctant to comment further on the Jakarta police statement. However, his party believes that the FPI paramilitary unit involved in the confrontation with the police did not have firearms.

According to Aziz, his party adheres to FPI organizational rules that prohibit each member from carrying firearms.

“Yes, our lawyer said that according to the procedural provisions of the laskar himself in his KTA (membership card) it is prohibited. I spoke in the provisions of the regulation that the laskar is prohibited from carrying firearms,” he said.

It was previously reported that Polda Metro Jaya responded to complaints from the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) denying that its troops had firearms when they clashed with police on the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road. The police confirmed that they have strong evidence regarding the possession of firearms by the FPI member.
