In a white cap, a dark robe and an orange shirt numbered 110, Soni Eranata looks relaxed. “Assalamu’alaikum,” he told the forceful team that he had been waiting in the interview room of the Criminal Investigation Building of the National Police, on Saturday night (5/12/2020).

There are no high notes, sharp eyes and pointed index finger as usual when speaking. Soni, who became popular under the name Maaher At-Thuwailibi, admitted that he was shocked that the police cyber investigation team detained him on Thursday morning, December 3, 2020.

“Several times I had dealings with the police, the first time they arrested me. I was in shock, in shock,” Maaher said.

He admitted that he did not expect his response to a netizen’s tweet about Maulana Habib Muhammad Lutfi bin Ali bin Yahya to land him in a holding cell. Maaher says what happened was a misunderstanding. He had no intention of insulting Habib Lutfi, who was highly respected by the Nahdlatul Ulama community and society in general.

He also argued that before being detained by the police, he had planned with his wife and children to meet Habib Lutfi in Pekalongan.

“I want to apologize and kiss your hand,” she said between sobs. For him, apologizing is not a shame or a fault. But show a gentlemanly attitude to admit mistakes. “Punish my mistakes proportionally and professionally,” he added.

Maaher, who admitted that she had studied at Al Hidayah and then Ibnu Khaldun University, Bogor, explained that she always seems fierce on social media. He said it was just the result of the culture he brought from Medan. But in his daily life at home and in the community he admits that he is usually calm.

“If they consider me a mischievous ustaz, hug me. Don’t consider me an enemy,” he said.
