Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) can indict corruptors with a death sentence during the Corona virus (COVID-19) pandemic. The KPK hopes that there will be no more corrupt behaviors that occur in difficult times like this, when citizens and the state are affected by disaster.

“It is true that the Corruption Eradication Commission in a situation like this, a condition in which the country faces a COVID-19 disaster like this one, certainly hopes that corrupt behavior will not take place under such difficult conditions, as is needed. en in article 2, paragraph 2, “said KPK Vice President Nawawi Pomolango, quoted from detikcom, Saturday (5/12)

“That the threat of the death penalty can be carried out against those who commit criminal acts of corruption in times of national disasters, social disasters, etc.,” he said.

Nawawi said his party would consider the demands for the death penalty. Nawawi said the Corona pandemic could be used as an excuse to increase the punishment for corruption offenders.

“Of course we will pay attention to the issue of this lawsuit, it is used as an excuse for this condition. We can use it as an excuse to exacerbate our demands,” Nawawi said.

Nawawi said acts of corruption, especially in the midst of this difficult situation, cannot be justified. For that, he said he would consider prosecuting the perpetrators of corruption with the highest standards.

“Any criminal act of corruption that occurs in the midst of a difficult situation in the country such as this is reason for the commission to maximize the persecution, at least against suspected perpetrators of corruption,” he said.

KPK President Firli Bahuri once reminded all parties not to commit criminal acts of corruption amid the Corona virus (COVID-19) outbreak. He said that perpetrators of corruption during a disaster can be threatened with the death penalty.

“Especially now that we are dealing with the Corona outbreak. Really, there are people who are still corrupting because they do not feel empathy for the Republic of Indonesia. Remember that corruption during a disaster is a death sentence,” said KPK President Firli Bahuri, to journalists on Saturday (21). / 3/2020).

He emphasized that the KPK’s efforts to root out corruption will not stop even though they have to face the risk of the Corona virus. He said the KPK investigators were still working until now.

Previously, the KPK carried out a manual arrest operation (OTT) of officials from the Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos). This is suspected to be related to the Covid-19 pandemic welfare program. “The KPK arrested the PPK suspect in the Social Assistance program of the Ministry of Social Affairs,” Firli said.

Firli explained that the PPK official allegedly received gifts from the Procurement of Goods and Services (PBJ) providers for covid-19 social assistance. “The alleged corruption of PPK has received gifts from PBJ welfare providers in the Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs for handling the COVID-19 pandemic,” he said.
