Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Taiwan announced that it will ban all Indonesian migrant workers (TKIs) from entering the country from December 4. The case of the dizzying crown (Covid-19) is the reason.
Taiwanese Minister of Health and Welfare Chen Shih-chung made an immediate announcement. The increase in cases in Indonesia, cited by Taiwan News, is said to be severe and several migrant workers who have entered Taipei have recently been infected.
“The ban will be in effect until December 18, at which time a decision will be made again on whether there will be leniency or whether it will further toughen the approval of state restrictions,” the outlet wrote, quoted on Thursday (03/12/2020 ).
Starting March 17, 2020, all migrant workers arriving in Taiwan must undergo a 14-day quarantine. According to data from Taiwan’s Ministry of Manpower (MOL), since then, 7,279 Indonesian migrant workers, 5,437 for social assistance and 1,842 for industry have been there.
In recent weeks, several cases have been confirmed among Indonesian migrant workers. Starting on November 20, Taiwan ordered a special quarantine at official quarantine centers for them and suspended eight Indonesian labor agents.
As of last November, an average of 677 migrant workers entered the island country. The two-week suspension is expected to reduce the number of incoming TKIs by 1,350.
