Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – There is an unfortunate reality about this country in 2020. Of the 191 countries and territories affected by the outbreak of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), our country is ranked 22 with the highest cumulative contribution of total cases in the world.
What a pity! There have been more than half a million people in the country who have been reported to have Covid-19 since President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) first reported it directly in early March. Meanwhile, the death toll reached 17,000.
In the Southeast Asian region, Indonesia ranks first in cumulative Covid-19 cases. Indonesia even surpassed the Philippines. In the world rankings, Indonesia is only below Chile by one rank and exactly one rank above the Netherlands.
If there are 17 thousand people reported who have died from Covid-19, of the total cases that reached 540 thousand. This means that the mortality rate reaches 3%. Compared to 25 other countries that are on top of the world in terms of cumulative number of cases, RI ranks # 6.
The number six is not good news, of course. Especially when viewed from the perspective of the epidemiological curve, Indonesia is one of the countries whose curves have never really curved down.
This is a reflection that Indonesia has not yet passed the peak of the first wave of the Covid-19 outbreak when other countries were already making noise. emergency shutdown due to the Covid-19 attack for the second wave.
The trend of adding new cases per day in the country continues to increase. Last week, in one day, the cases increased to more than 6,200. Yesterday, the case exceeded 5,000 in one day.
