Please, Mr. Anies, don’t pull the emergency brake

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Most entrepreneurs have accepted that their businesses were hit by the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic until the end of 202.

However, entrepreneurs must also prepare for the various possibilities that arise, including the possibility of an emergency braking policy to be implemented by the provincial government of DKI Jakarta under Governor Anies Baswedan.

“We from the business world hope that there will not be a sudden stop,” said the director of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of DKI Jakarta (Kadin), Diana Dewi to CNBC Indonesia, Tuesday (1/12/2020).

This step is not impossible, because the two highest leaders in DKI Jakarta have been confirmed positive for Covid-19. The most recent, namely Jakarta DKI Governor Anies Baswedan today, was also declared exposed. A few days earlier, the same happened to DKI Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria.

Diana Dewi sees that many companies will return to the brink of crisis if the DKI Jakarta provincial government applies the emergency brake again. Also, cash inflows and outflows have been unbalanced in recent months.

“If a total PSBB is to be carried out, that is what worries us. The new economy that is beginning, such as tourism, gastronomy and hotels, will be corrected once. The economic activities that are about to start and the activities in hotels they will certainly stop, “he explained.

It is not impossible, other sectors will also be affected. If an incident occurs, again employees will be affected, mainly 11 sectors that are excluded.

“So the industries that are not included in the 11 sectors involve employees who do work. That means there is no productivity, in Jakarta there will be more commerce and services. If there is a full PSBB, it means that the shopping centers will be closed again, because shopping and service centers will definitely be affected, “he explained.
