LONDON, KOMPAS.com – Tottenham Hotspur manager José Mourinho assessed that his team still cannot be called a candidate for Premier League champions despite now occupying the top of the standings.
Mourinho said that assessment using the phrase “Tottenham is a pony (little horse, not a racehorse)” so it does not deserve to be favored.
Mourinho’s condescension this time was shown after the Chelsea vs Tottenham Hotspur match that was played at Stamford Bridge Stadium on Sunday (11/29/2020).
The London derby included in Week 10 of the Premier League ended without a winner after the two teams tied without goals.
Despite not winning, Tottenham are currently entitled to top the Premier League standings with a collection of 21 points.

Tottenham are on top because they are superior on goal difference to defending champions Liverpool, who have an identical collection of points in second place.
Quoted from the BBC Sport website, this is the first time Tottenham Hotspur has topped the rankings after 10 weeks of competition in the Premier League era (from 1992-1993).
That fact certainly opens up Tottenham Hotspur’s chances of winning the first Premier League title in club history.
Seeing that Tottenham is now called one of the strong candidates for the English champion, Mourinho chose to be humble and considered the assumption excessive.
“We are currently not included in the competition for the Premier League title,” José Mourinho said on the BBC Sport website.
“So, we are not (race) horses. We are ponies,” Mourinho said.

One of the people who thinks Tottenham deserves to be called a candidate for Premier League champions this season is Chelsea manager Frank Lampard.
According to Lampard, this assumption deserves to be nailed down because Tottenham have a capable team to compete with and have shown consistency earlier this season.
Regarding Mourinho’s statement, Lampard indirectly considered that his former coach was only fighting with his tongue so that Tottenham was not under pressure.
“Mourinho talks like this because he sees (the competition) only from the end. They are currently at the top of the Premier League rankings,” Lampard said.
“If they call us candidates for the Premier League title, they deserve that title too,” Lampard said.
“Tottenham have invested a lot this season. Tottenham currently have Gareth Bale on the bench and Dele Alli has not played,” added Lampard.
“Tottenham and Liverpool are candidates for Premier League champions this season. On the other hand, there are many teams around us that have looked different this season,” said the English manager.
