BUENOS AIRES, KOMPAS.com – Diego Maradona’s personal physician, Leopoldo Luque, denied being responsible for the death of the Argentine soccer legend after police raided his home on Sunday (11/29/2020).

Launching The GuardianLuque even broke down in tears after agents finished raiding his home and office in Buenos Aires.

Police reportedly confiscated some of Luque’s belongings, such as a laptop, medical records, and various mobile devices.

According to Argentine media, the Police were investigating whether there was negligence in the care and treatment provided by Luque to Maradona, so the Police began an investigation into Luque for the alleged accidental murder.

Diego Maradona died of a heart attack on Wednesday at age 60, sparking mourning around the world.

His death prompted a police investigation and claims by Maradona’s lawyers that the emergency ambulance service was taking too long to arrive after being called.

Luque marah

Clarín newspaper said an “angry, restless and eloquent” Luque spoke to reporters Sunday afternoon after police officers who ransacked his home for 3 hours left his home.

“I feel very bad because my friend has died,” Luque told the media, “I am not responsible for all this.”

“I know what I did with Diego and I know how I did it. I can explain everything. I really believe that I am doing the best I can for Diego,” Luque added, according to Argentine news site Infobae.

Luque, who allegedly burst into tears when speaking to reporters, said he was shocked by the decision to search his property, including the recovery of documents and the footballer’s medical history.

Luque told the Clarín media that his relationship with the legendary Argentine soccer player was like that of father and son, with the typical rebellious father.

Maradona’s lawyer, Matías Moria, said on Thursday that he would ask for a full investigation into the circumstances of the footballer’s death, criticizing the emergency services that he considered slow to act.

“The ambulance took more than half an hour to arrive, which is criminally stupid,” Matías said Thursday in a post on Twitter.

The reason for the investigation

Still, it is unclear what prompted the investigation Sunday morning, although Maradona’s daughter is reportedly concerned about the care her father received prior to his death.

An anonymous source from the Argentine justice system told La Nación media investigators after gathering some “evidence” that it was not specific.

“If irregularities in Maradona’s home health care environment are confirmed, we may see a crime of accidental homicide,” the source said.

Another source told the media: “Given that Luque is Maradona’s personal doctor, the decision to conduct an investigation at his home and place of operation to find some documents may determine if there was any irregularity he committed at home.”

At the time of his death, Maradona was being treated in a rented house on the outskirts of the capital, Buenos Aires, after undergoing surgery on November 3 to remove a blood clot in his brain.
