JAKARTA, iNews.id – The MER-C gained the trust of the Grand Imam of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) Habib Rizieq Shihab to conduct health checks and escorts. However, MER-C regretted that Habib Rizieq received unethical treatment and violated patient rights by the Mayor of Bogor, Bima Arya.

The president of the MER-C Presidium, Dr. Sarbini Abdul Murad, assessed that Bima Arya had intervened against the medical team in operation, thus disturbing the patients who were resting in the hospital.

Additionally, Bima Arya is also deemed unethical in publishing the patient’s condition to the public, leading to confusion and upset in the community.

“The mayor of Bogor needs to learn medical ethics about the independence of medical staff at work and the right of patients to accept or reject all attempts at examinations and treatments to be given without any intervention or pressure from anywhere,” said Sarbini in a press release quoted on the official website of the Republic of Indonesia. -c.org, Sunday (11/29/2020).

Sarbini gave an example that in areas of disaster and war, his party, as medical personnel, is obliged to maintain professionalism and respect the rights of patients.

Supposedly, Sarbini said, Bima Arya as mayor of the city of Bogotá entrusted him to the hospital and the medical team that handled him, because the medical team knew which steps were necessary and which were not to treat patients.

Additionally, Sarbini said MER-C had experience in providing health and medical assistance to anyone with a critical human condition.

According to him, the human concept of MER-C that is Rahmatan Lil Alamin, is independent, maintains neutrality, to help the most needy “The most vulnerable people and the most neglected people” due to conditions of war, injustice, stigmatization, isolation political causing health and medical problems. .

“MER-C helps anyone regardless of the background of the problem. Call him the GAM commander, the late Ishak Daud, Police Commissioner General Susno Duadji, Ust Abu Bakar Baasyir, terrorism suspects, etc.,” Sarbini said.

Sarbini said that health problems in the era of the Covid-19 pandemic often caused controversy, because they were always associated with the corona virus itself. Often times, there are differences in perceptions between the public and healthcare workers when responding to Covid-19.

Stigmatization, lack of empathy, and respect for the patient’s right to privacy create a significant gap between the public and government officials. Therefore, it is necessary to return to professionalism and ethics and medical law that defends the rights of the patient.

As for Habib Rizieq Shihab, MER-C, as an independent medical team that the family asked to take care of the health of those affected, regrets the attitude of the mayor of Bogor, Bima Arya, who intervened and put pressure on the hospital, the team doctor and patients.

“I regret the attitude of the mayor of Bogor who intervened and put pressure on the hospital, the medical team and the patients,” Sarbini said.

Currently, he said, all the examinations that must be carried out are in progress and the treatment will be carried out according to the health problems found. The MER-C also asked all parties to be quiet, to maintain patient privacy and to entrust the medical team to handle it.

“The transmission of health conditions is the domain of the family. Even the hospital / doctor who treats them has no right to transmit them without the permission of the family,” said Sarbini.
