Pekanbaru FPI President Husni Thamrin was named a suspect on the grounds that he was suspected of forcibly breaking up the demonstration against Habib Rizieq Syihab in Pekanbaru. Husni is suspected of being involved when protesters forcibly dispersed protesters against Habib Rizieq by seizing loudspeakers.
In addition to Husni, the police also arrested a member of the FPI, M. Nur Fajril. Husni was arrested on Tuesday (11/24), allegedly forcibly dissolving the declaration of 45 elements of mass organizations that rejected Habib Rizieq’s arrival in Pekanbaru on Monday (11/23).
“The FPI forcibly dissolved the declaration of 45 elements of social organizations and community leaders who rejected the arrival of HRS to Pekanbaru,” Pekanbaru Police Chief Kombes Nandang Mu’min Wijaya said on Wednesday (11/25) 2020).
“The dissolution was made by them and deprived citizens of the right to speak and meet in public,” he said.
Nandang said that the demonstration of elements of the mass organization had received permission from the COVID-19 Working Group and had notified the police. According to Nandang, Husni’s action violated the law that guarantees freedom of opinion in public.
“The permits are based on the recommendations of the COVID-19 Working Group, the Declaration Notification Letter (STP) and the notification to the police to ensure the activities,” he said.
“The dissolution of the FPI is clearly against the law. Every citizen has the right and freedom of expression and opinion in public. The FPI even dissolved the declaration,” continued Nandang.
The demonstration against Habib Rizieq was held in front of the Riau governor’s office. Nandang said that several people suspected of being FPI came to the end of the action and caused a riot.
After being investigated, the police named Husni and Nur as suspects. They are suspected of violating article 18 of Law No. 9 of 1998 on freedom of expression in public and / or article 335 paragraph 1 of the Penal Code.
Husni is suspected of being involved when the FPI crowd took the loudspeaker by force. More on the next page.
