Bisnis.com, JAKARTA – The Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Firli Bahuri straightened out his statement that he had read the book ‘Why Nation Fails’ in 2002.

This statement was made during a speech at the KPK Surrender of Confiscated Assets on Tuesday (11/24/2020). On that occasion he mentioned the name of DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan, who was busy being discussed in the media after uploading a photo of himself reading a book titled ‘How Democracies Die’, on Sunday (11/22/2020 ).

Firli explained that she had read the book in question titled “Why the Nation Fails.” The book, written by Daron Acemoglu and James Robinson, was first published in 2012.

“This morning I said that Mr. Anies read ‘How Democracies Die’, I also saw that someone had read the book ‘Why Nations Fail’. Nah I’ve been that book for a long time. Not ‘How Democracies Die’. It means I read ‘Why Nations Fail’ in 2012. I mean this book, ”Firli said when confirmed by the media on Tuesday (11/24/2020).

He admitted that he had the first impression of the book and had read it since 2012. Meanwhile, in his speech this morning, Firli admitted that he read the book in 2002.

However, when asked further, Firli confirmed that she had mistakenly called the year the book was published. Firli said the book was first published in the UK in 2012.

However, the book was apparently published by The Crown Publishing Group, based in Manhattan, New York, USA.

“That’s right, the book Why Nation Fail I want to say that I read in 2012, the original edition that wasto post first in the UK in 2012 [bukan terjemahan Indonesia]. I still keep the book in my library, “he said.

Previously, the KPK president’s statement about Governor Anies Baswedan’s post while reading the book How Democracies Die was widely discussed on social media.

“Yesterday I saw it in the media, Mr. Anies read ‘How democracies die’. The book is ‘Why nations fail’, I have read it for a long time. In 2002 I read the book. If someone has just read it now, he will just wake up. That’s why many criticize him, it’s been a long time for the book, “said Firli at the handover of confiscated KPK items on Tuesday (11/24/2020).

Firli’s statement was made when he explained the dangers of corruption. According to Firli, many countries have failed to achieve state goals due to massive acts of corruption.

In addition to mentioning the book ‘How Democracies Die’ read by Anies, Firli also admitted that she had read the book ‘Why Nations Fail’ since 2002.
