The government has highlighted the long holidays in October 2020 as the cause of the addition of new clusters from the spread of the Corona virus (COVID-19). Therefore, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) called for a reduction in long vacations by the end of 2020.
Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati said another factor in this consideration was the impact of the long vacations that had been spent so far on the economy.
According to Sri Mulyani, the long vacations were supposed to create consumption growth that became the backbone of the Indonesian economy. However, in the midst of a pandemic, the results are different.
“It should be that in a normal environment, with a day off, people usually interact and then consume. But what we see now is that every long holiday increases the amount of COVID-19. But the economic indicators do not improve or there is no consumption expected, “he added. Sri Mulyani said in the November issue of our APBN press conference, on Monday (11/23/2020).
Additionally, the lower number of working days in October 2020 and December 2020, compared to 2019, also reduced economic activity in the productive sector.
“First, when viewed from the October data, the number of business days has decreased, electricity consumption in the business sector, then manufacturing has decreased, and this means that the impact on the economy in the business sector production has also decreased, in the consumer sector it has not recovered either, “added Sri Mulyani.
