REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Kodam Jaya’s headquarters in Cawang, Jakarta, has recently been flooded with flower garlands bearing messages of support to crack down on the perpetrators of the Covid-19 crowd. The crown was installed after the removal of posters and billboards welcoming the return of the High Priest of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) Habib Rizieq Shihab (HRS) by order of Major General TNI Dudung Abdurrachman of Pangdam Jaya.

However, there is a written flower arrangement from the Alliance of Indigenous Peoples of the Archipelago (AMAN). The message of the flower crown is: “Fight and act against the causes of COVID-19 and Covidiot.” In response to the flower crown, AMAN through its press release emphasized that it was not correct to send the crown. For this, the Executive Council of AMAN (PB) will investigate the act.

“We, the Indigenous Peoples of the Archipelago, continue to work hard against Covid19 throughout the archipelago. However, the above wreath is an irresponsible act of a party acting on behalf of AMAN. Therefore, we transmit this clarification to avoid slander and misunderstandings, “PB AMAN said in a press release titled Clarification by PB AMAN on speeches at Jaya Regional Military Command dated November 23, 2020.

On its official page, AMAN confirms that it has vision to create a just and prosperous life for all Indigenous peoples of Indonesia. The organization has 2,359 members from indigenous communities across Indonesia, with a total of around 17 million individual members.

“We occupy our usual territory from generation to generation. Indigenous peoples have sovereignty over land and natural resources, sociocultural life that is regulated by customary law, and customary institutions that maintain the sustainability of their lives as customary communities.”
