Bisnis.com, JAKARTA – Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) called for a reduction in the long vacation schedule by the end of 2020. The President’s request came after a limited meeting (rats) on Monday (11/23/2020 )
“On the issue of holidays, the joint end-of-year holidays, including holidays with a substitute for Eid al-Fitr, the president called for a reduction,” said Coordinating Minister of Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK), Muhadjir. Effendy, as cited by Bisnis, on Monday (11/23/2020).
In a virtual press conference, Muhadjir stated that reducing collective vacations and leave still requires coordination with related ministries and agencies.
Previously, a Joint Ministerial Decree (SKB) had been issued on 2020 national holidays and joint license on May 20, 2020. The government issued Ministerial Decree No. 440, Menaker No.03 and MenPANRB No.3 of 2020 .
This decree was signed by the Minister of Religion Fachrul Razi, the Minister of Human Resources Ida Fauziah and the Minister of Administrative Reform and Bureaucratic Reform Tjahjo Kumolo.
Through this policy, there will be 2 national holidays and 5 days of collective leave plus Saturdays and Sundays holidays for 4 days. As such, there should be 11 days off without a break.
However, you have to abandon people’s plans to enjoy a long end-of-year vacation without rest.
President Jokowi’s decision to cut the long year-end holidays appears to be related to the number of Covid-19 cases in Indonesia, which has yet to decrease.
In addition, the head of the Covid-19 Management Task Force, Lieutenant General Doni Monardo, revealed that he was studying the impact of the long vacations at the end of October 2020 on the increase in Covid-19 cases.
“The Task Force is still following developments for next week. Is the impact significant or is the community getting better at implementing safe and comfortable vacations without crowds,” Doni said at a press conference broadcast by BNPB on Sunday ( 11/15/2020).
It is through these findings that the Covid-19 management working group will recommend to the government whether to continue the long year-end vacations or even cut them short.
The following is the detailed schedule for the start of the end of 2020 holidays during the Covid-19 pandemic as established in the Three Ministerial Decree:
1. Thursday, December 24, 2020: joint license for Christmas
2. Friday, December 25, 2020: Christmas holidays
