Liverpool –
Liverpool didn’t just get three points when they faced Leicester City. However, the Reds also posted another unbeaten streak at home.
Tattered Liverpool received a test from Leicester as the Premier League leader in the standings, on Monday (11/23/2020) at the morning WIB at Anfield.
Without most of their main players, including Mohamed Salah and Jordan Henderson, Liverpool made four substitutions. Leicester is expected to steal numbers in this match.
However, the truth is that since the referee’s whistle sounded, Leicester have been under pressure from Liverpool. The hosts were 2-0 up in the first half thanks to own goals from Jonny Evans and Diogo Jota.
In the second half, Liverpool continued to dominate the game to score a goal in the final minutes of regulation through Roberto Firmino. Liverpool won 3-0 as well as consolidating their position in the top two with Tottenham Hotspur, which topped the standings thanks to goal difference.
The win over Leicester was sweet for Liverpool as they extended their 64-game unbeaten streak at home. This is a new record within the club.
The last time Liverpool lost was in a 1-3 loss to Crystal Palace in April 2017. After that, Liverpool won 53 wins and 11 draws. There have only been five goalless draws in that period.
169 goals were scored and only 42 conceded, with 34 clean sheets. There are a total of 27 teams that Liverpool have faced throughout the 64 games and 40 players are used to achieve it.
“It is impressive that we can maintain an undefeated streak at home without the fans. Hopefully when they come back, we can maintain that record,” said James Milner, who served as captain replacing Jordan Henderson in this game, as quoted. BBC Sport.
