BOLASPORT.COM – Suzuki Ecstar rider Joan Mir has been confirmed as the 2020 MotoGP world champion after holding a 29-point lead over his closest competitor, Franco Morbidelli, who defends the Petronas Yamaha SRT team.

In the absence of a race and the maximum number of points to be won is 25, the difference in points between Joan Mir and Franco Morbidelli cannot be equaled or surpassed.

Still, Monster Energy Yamaha senior rider Valentino Rossi believes Morbidelli has his own strength.

Rossi even believes that what his protégé has can be a good advantage to face MotoGP 2021.

Furthermore, this season the Italian rider only gets the 2019 version of the YZR-M1 motorcycle, not the 2020 as used by Rossi and his teammate Maverick Vinales and Morbidelli’s teammate Fabio Quartararo.

“Honestly, I raced last year on a 2019 bike and this year on a 2020 bike. As far as I can remember, the difference is not that great,” Rossi was quoted as saying by Crash.

“I think what Franco has done this season is incredible, and right now, he is also the fastest rider in MotoGP, he is the rider who is more physically prepared.”

“For me, this makes a difference. We will see what will happen next year,” Rossi said again.
