Joan Mir set a unique record after winning the 2020 MotoGP. With just one win this season, Mir surpassed the record of the late Nicky Hayden.

Miri was proclaimed world champion after the Valencia MotoGP race at the Riccardo Tormo circuit, on Sunday (11/15/2020) in the WIB afternoon. The Suzuki rider did not win, he only finished seventh.

However, that finish was enough to get Mir up the MotoGP championship ladder because his closest competitor, Fabio Quartararo, had crashed from the start of the race. Mir, with 171 points, will no longer be caught by Franco Morbidelli in second place in the standings with 29 points, considering that the 2020 season leaves a draw.

Now, Mir can smile widely because his consistency throughout the season has paid off. Mir may only win once, but he is the rider with the most podiums – seven times!

Mir hasn’t even been on pole all season, the first driver since Wayne Rainey in 1992, when he was named GP500. Mir also became the first world champion with fewer wins, once in the European MotoGP last week.

He broke the records of Leslie Graham (1949), Umberto Masetti (1950 and 1952) and Nicky Hayden (2006) with two victories. Especially in MotoGP, Hayden previously held the record.

In the 2006 season, Hayden was able to beat Valentino Rossi, who had five victories that season. Hayden finished with 252 points, just five points clear at the end of Rossi’s season as runner-up.

Hayden only won MotoGP in the Netherlands and the United States, but 10 times on the podium. Meanwhile, although Rossi has been on the podium 11 times, he has retired three times.

There is still one race left in MotoGP 2020, Portimao, Portugal this weekend, can Joan Mir increase the number of victories?
