SAQQARA, KOMPAS.com – A total of 100 ancient coffins with some mummies in them were displayed by Egypt’s Ministry of Antiquities on Saturday (11/14/2020).

Not only the coffin with various mummies, the exhibition at the foot of the Djoser Step Pyramid or the famous ‘Djoser Step Pyramid’ at Saqqara also shows another discovery of 40 gold statues.

On October 3, 2020, archaeologists opened the lid of the ancient coffin, which then revealed the mummies preserved inside.

Archaeologists from Egypt’s ministry of tourism and antiquities appear to open a sarcophagus, also known as an ancient coffin, about 2,500 (other sources say 2,600) years old, which is still sealed.

The moment was recorded in a video posted on Twitter, which shows the crowd watching excitedly.

When the lid of the sarcophagus was opened, archaeologists found the mummy, still dressed in ornate linen, with the color still intact.

The Saqqara Tomb or Saqqara Cemetery, located in the southern part of the capital Cairo, Egypt, is ‘home’ to many luxurious sarcophagi with one of the earliest pyramids in the area, the Step Pyramid of Djoser.

However, the site has suffered extensive damage over the centuries due to looting and illegal excavations.
