A convoy of trucks and vehicles carrying Russian soldiers appeared to have entered the area following a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Russia has deployed nearly 2,000 soldiers along with tanks and other armored vehicles to secure a ceasefire agreed to this week after six weeks of war in the ethnic Armenian enclave of Azerbaijan.
The scale of the war’s devastation became clear on Friday in Nagorno-Karabakh. The situation also showed the desperation of the Armenian army in that war. (Read also: Russia-Turkey finally agreed to cooperate in controlling the Nagorno-Karabakh ceasefire)
A Russian troop, accompanied by Reuters journalists from the border with Armenia, passed around a hundred bodies of ethnic Armenian soldiers scattered along the road. (See infographic: China finally congratulates Biden and Harris)

Cars, shrapnel and pickup trucks were strewn along the side of the road, as well as a burning tank and other damaged military vehicles.
Several bodies lay in a bullet-riddled military ambulance. One of the dead soldier’s legs was bandaged, the other dead man wore a tourniquet that appeared to be treating his friend.
Several roadside gravestones were damaged and several bullet-laden vehicles had graffiti, including the swastika. It is unclear who drew the graffiti.
In Lachin, closer to Armenia, a group of ethnic Armenians say they have fought to defend Nagorno-Karabakh. They are not happy with the peace agreement.
One of them, Suren Zarakyan, 50, said that he had moved to the Lachin region from Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, in the 1990s after Armenians took the territory in the first war in Nagorno-Karabakh. .
He was embarrassed when he learned of the ceasefire agreement, which froze the acquisition of Azerbaijani territory and paved the way for the deployment of Moscow troops in the region.
“I expect more from Russia and faster,” he said. “But Russia is interested in the base and its objectives. It doesn’t matter if it is in Azerbaijan or Armenia. They are interested in not leaving the Turks here.”
