Valencia –
Joan Mir’s mission to secure the world champion title at Valencia MotoGP was hampered by his starting position. Mir admitted that he wasn’t playing it safe, but he was also vigilant.
Currently, the Suzuki rider leads the standings with 162 points, 37 points ahead of his closest rivals Fabio Quartararo and Alex Rins in second and third. With two races remaining, Mir only needs to finish in the top three in Ricardo Tormo on Sunday (11/15) to win his first MotoGP title.
However, Mir’s job will be more difficult, as he will only start from 12th place after 0.797 drift from Franco Morbidelli in the standings. Still, Mir proved he could surprise himself despite having a bad start.
In the Emilia Romagna series, for example, Mir started from 11th place to finish runner-up. Also in the Teruel series where Mir started from 12th place before finishing on the second podium.
Joan Mir admitted that he was confused by the speed of his bike in qualifying. However, Mir will not race like crazy to secure the world title.
“I can’t say this is a bad day,” Mir said. GPOne. “I picked up my pace and I’m excited about it, but I don’t know exactly what happened in qualifying.”
“On the bike I didn’t feel a good feeling and I lacked traction, I was very slippery at the back. I couldn’t push and do a good spin. I know there are different track conditions but other riders can do a good time. That’s good.”
“This is not the first time I started from behind, this is not my choice but it does not mean the end of the world. The important thing is that I will attack and I will not run safely. My mentality is always to give my best, logically using my mind because I don’t want to do things. ” Stupid, “said Joan Mir before the Valencia MotoGP race.
