The Indonesian Association of Churches (PGI) could not stop thinking about the discussion of the Draft Law on Prohibition of Alcoholic Beverages in the Indonesian Parliament. PGI assessed that what is needed from alcoholic beverages is control and supervision.

“I shook my head at the discussion of the Draft Law on the Prohibition of Alcoholic Beverages in the DPR RI at this time. In 2016, PGI has conveyed its views on this matter through the DPR-RI RDPU,” said PGI Ketum Pdt Gomar Gultom to journalists, on Friday (11/13/2020).

According to Gomar, there are currently a number of bills in the DPR that need further discussion. However, discussions on the bill stalled until it was ignored.

“So much public pressure has been ignored asking DPR to prioritize the discussion of the PMHA Bill, the PKS Bill and the PPRT Bill. In fact, this bill is very urgent because it involves structural issues that are difficult. to resolve without the presence of an authorized regulation, “he said.

Gomar also highlighted the approach taken in the discussion of the Draft Law for the Prohibition of Alcoholic Beverages. In addition, he also addressed the issue of opening the ‘tap’ of alcoholic beverages in one of the Middle Eastern countries.

“I see that the LMB Bill’s approach is very childish, nothing and a bit forbidden. When do we want to be mature and responsible? At a time when an Arab country like the WEU is now exempting alcohol, we even want to issue regulations that ban alcoholic beverages. “Gomar said.
