TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Presidential Chief of Staff (KSP), Moeldoko, said he was confused by the call for reconciliation by the leader of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI), Rizieq Shihab. According to Moeldoko, the relationship between Rizieq and the government is good, so there is no need for reconciliation.
“What is to be reconciled with Habib Rizieq? From the beginning, he left alone. Then he went home, he just went home,” Moeldoko said in his office, Thursday, November 12, 2020.
In fact, Moeldoko said, the government also deployed officers to monitor security and order upon Rizieq’s return. “Our officers have to watch well, not disturb them. Even if they are themselves. Interfering on the road means,” said the former TNI commander.
According to Moeldoko, what is needed is an understanding of the rights and responsibilities of others. “The country protects everyone. So, in my opinion, what is the term reconciliation? What do we want to reconcile? We are actually in a good position,” he said.
Previously, Rizieq declared that he was willing to reconcile with the government. He said he was ready to sit down together and open the door to dialogue on various conditions.
“We are ready for reconciliation, but stop criminalizing the ulama first, stop criminalizing activists first. Show good intentions first,” Rizieq said during a conference in Petamburan that was broadcast on the YouTube account Front TV on Thursday. November 12, 2020.
Moeldoko claims that the government has never criminalized ulama. All those convicted by authorities, Moeldoko said, were related to the actions of a person and not to the inherent state of that person.
