The case of the disappearance of a Maybank Indonesia client worth Rs 22 billion belonging to esports athlete Winda Lunardi is still under investigation by the Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police. The Deposit Guarantee Agency (LPS) stated that this case was not within the domain of LPS handling.
In a sense, Winda’s lost savings money cannot be guaranteed / replaced by LPS.
“LPS doesn’t handle cases like that. LPS handles problem banks. Not individual cases like that,” LPS Purbaya Board of Commissioners Chairman Yudhi Sadewa told detikcom, Tuesday (11/10/2020).
The former deputy for Coordination of Maritime Sovereignty and Energy of the Coordinating Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Investments considered that Winda’s case was classified as fraud or individual fraud. So, it is not a case that happens to the whole bank.
“(The Maybank case) I see fraud,” Purbaya said.
As president of the LPS, he questioned the procedures carried out by Maybank. According to him, Maybank should be able to quickly resolve the 6-month rolling case.
“What needs to be questioned is why this happened. Are there any weaknesses in the procedure? I think Maybank can resolve it quickly. They have to investigate and find the fault where, if there is, then fix it,” he said.
