KPK Determines North Labuhanbatu Regent As Suspect In Budget Mafia Case

The KPK named North Labuhanbatu regent Kharuddin Syah, aka Buyung, as a suspect in the budget mafia corruption case. Kharuddin is a new suspect in this case.

“After finding enough preliminary evidence, the KPK carried out an investigation and raised the status of this case to investigation on April 17, 2020 and named a suspect,” KPK Vice President Lili Pintauli Siregar told reporters, on Tuesday (11/10/2020).

Aside from Kharuddin, the KPK named former PPP Deputy Treasurer Puji Suhartono as a suspect. Puji is also a new suspect in this case.

As a result of his actions, Kharuddin is suspected of violating Article 5 paragraph (1) letter a or Article 5 paragraph (1) letter b or Article 13 of Law Number 31 of 1999 on the Eradication of Crimes of Corruption as amended by the Law Number 20 of 2001 Amendments to Law Number 31 of 1999 on the Eradication of the Crime of Corruption (Corruption Law) together with Article 55 paragraph (1) of the 1st Penal Code.

Meanwhile, Puji is suspected of violating article 12 letter a or article 12 letter b or article 11 of the Corruption Law. together with Article 55 paragraph (1) 1st. together with Article 65 of the Penal Code.

As is known, the name of the northern regent of Labuhanbatu, Kharuddin Syah Sitorus, was mentioned in the indictment of Yaya Purnomo. In the indictment, Kharuddin was said to have tipped IDR 400 million and SGD 290,000 to Yaya Purnomo in respect of the 2018 North Labuhanbatu Special Assignment Fund (DAK).

Yaya Purnomo, an official at the Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu), was sentenced to 6.5 years in prison and a fine of 200 million rupees, a subsidiary of 1 month in prison. Yaya was found guilty of conspiring with former DPR member Amin Santono to allow Central Lampung Regency to receive an additional budget allocation from the 2018 State Budget.
