7 irregularities in the Maybank case of Hotman Paris

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The lawyer PT Bank Maybank Indonesia Tbk (BNII) Hotman Paris Hutape suspects that there are a series of irregularities in the case of the disappearance of client funds belonging to the esports athlete Winda Lunardi and her mother Floleta worth IDR 22 thousand millions.

This irregularity, for example, according to Hotman, was a banking practice carried out by a suspect that involved a client.

Therefore, as a legal attorney, he submitted it for the investigator to conduct a more in-depth investigation of the individuals allegedly involved. Police have named the head of the Maybank branch with the initials A as a suspect.

“A admits that he practices banking within the bank, transfers various people. Who is involved, we leave it to the investigators,” Hotman said at a press conference at the Jetski Cafe, Pantai Indah Kapuk, North Jakarta, on Monday ( September 11, 2020).

There are at least 7 strange things that were declared by Hotman Paris. The first irregularity, Hotman revealed, was a savings account that had been entrusted to the manager of the Maybank branch, who had been named a suspect.

It is known that Winda opened a savings account in 2014 with an initial deposit of 2 billion IDR from her father. Then his savings balance continued to grow to Rs 17 billion.

“Customers opened bank accounts, but ATM cards and accounts were not taken until this day,” said Hotman Paris.

Andiko, Maybank’s national director of anti-fraud, also said customers already know. “Customers never complain about this,” Andiko said at a press conference.

The second oddity is that there is interest on savings paid through other banks. In this case, the defendant paid annual interest of IDR 567 million per year through another bank account, not Maybank.

“Interest on savings is not paid from Maybank to Maybank’s account, but from A’s personal account, which is paid to the client’s parents,” he said.

The third oddity is that there is a difference in the interest payment on the savings from the value you should have, but this was not protested by the client. Maybank reportedly paid interest on the annual savings of 1.2 billion IDR, but only 567 million IDR was paid.

This was followed by an irregularity in the form of a flow of funds from Winda’s account amounting to Rs 6 billion for the opening of an insurance policy at PT Prudential Life Assurance. Then, a month later, there was a transaction from that account worth 4 billion rupees, which was addressed to Winda’s father, Herman Lunardi.

“How can Rp 6 billion be withdrawn from the manager of branch A, but Rp 4 billion went back to Winda’s father’s account? That’s another question. What’s going on with that money?” Hotman Paris added.

Fifth, this famous lawyer also questioned this checking account. Because, in fact, the account does not have a checking account like the one mentioned by Winda regarding a fake checking account.

“The open account is an account with a passbook, not a statement,” Andiko said.

The next irregularity was that the savings data was not filled in by the customer, but by suspect A.

In this case, Winda was known to have signed blank forms. “This is proven by the client’s signature on the account opening form,” Andiko explained.

The seventh oddity is that Winda’s parents have had a close relationship with Suspect A since before serving as the head of the Maybank Cipulir branch.

“A already knows the client’s parents before the client becomes a Maybank client. So he has known him for a long time,” he said again.
