Liverpool failed to get all the points when they faced Manchester City. But, for coach Juergen Klopp, the game was very exciting and fierce from the start.

The two teams that controlled England in the last three years met at the Etihad Stadium, on Sunday (11/8/2020), Manchester City vs Liverpool. The tension of the game had heated up from the first minutes because the two teams were playing attack.

Liverpool took the lead with a penalty from Mohamed Salah in the 13th minute and then were able to block the City defense. However, the hosts began to escape the pressure after 25 minutes of play.

They even leveled the score in the 32nd minute through Gabriel Jesús. City had a chance to take the lead when they received a penalty in the 43rd minute, but Kevin De Bruyne’s execution missed the mark.

In the second half, the pace of the match slowed relatively and both teams played it safe. No dangerous opportunities were created during the second half so the score went 1-1.

For Klopp, this result is certainly disappointing because they failed to take the top of the Leicester City standings. However, Liverpool have played well to reduce City’s aggressiveness, especially when playing at home.

According to Opta, City only made seven attempts with two on goal, while Liverpool had 10 attempts with three on goal.

“Honestly, this is a super football game. The top two teams are up for a fierce battle; the energy levels of both teams are incredible. You can see the players are so tired after 10-15 minutes. I think this is a match with City where they don’t have much. “They didn’t have many clear opportunities either and the team deserves to be praised,” Klopp said. BBC Sport.

“The way the players started the game was very, very good. We had a lot of counterattack moments. So many. Unfortunately we couldn’t finish it,” he continued.

“Changing the system against City … the players want to listen, adapt and play well. We could have created many golden opportunities on several occasions.”
