World leaders were busy congratulating Joe Biden, who had just been elected as the 46th President of the United States (USA). Congratulations flowed from Canadian Prime Minister (Prime Minister) Justin Trudeau, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, to British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, known for being close to President Donald Trump.
As reported ReutersOn Sunday (8/11/2020), Prime Minister Trudeau congratulated Biden and his deputy, Kamala Harris, on the victory in this year’s presidential election. He expects the relationship between the United States and Canada to be closer under Biden’s leadership in the future.
“On behalf of the Canadian government, I congratulate Joe Biden and Kamala Harris on their election as President and Vice President of the United States. Canada and the United States enjoy an extraordinary relationship, unique on the world stage,” said Prime Minister Trudeau.
“I look forward to working with President-elect Biden, Vice President-elect Harris, their administration and the United States Congress as we tackle the world’s greatest challenges together,” he said.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel also congratulated Biden. “I look forward to future cooperation with President Biden. Our transatlantic friendship is irreplaceable if we are to overcome the greatest challenges of our era,” Merkel said.
French President Emmanuel Macron in his congratulations also invited Biden and Harris to work together to meet the world’s challenges.
“The American people have elected their president. Congratulations @JoeBiden and @KamalaHarris! We have many challenges to overcome. Let’s work together!” Macron said.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson congratulated Biden on his victory and named the United States as his most important ally. Johnson is known to have had a good relationship with Trump during his presidency for the past four years.
“Congratulations to Joe Biden on his election as President of the United States and to Kamala Harris on his historic achievements,” said Johnson.
“The United States is our most important ally and I look forward to working closely on our common priorities, from climate change issues to trade and security,” he added.
