In a speech in the early hours of the vote count, current Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump declared himself the winner of the US presidential election and has since made accusations of voter fraud and unfounded voter fraud. His challenger, Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, who appears to be on the brink of victory, has asked his supporters to be calm and patient, saying “all ballots must count.” Now that patience will be the key.
Mail-in ballots are largely to blame for the time the US presidential election results were announced. Like the US system that allows states to set their own (and often different) rules on anything, but in this particular case it’s also about counting the votes.
This means that each state assigns chronology and a different deadline when cards must be counted. (Read: Voicemail via post as Biden’s assistant)
Rules in some states do not allow election officials to begin intensive work processing mail (or “mail ballot,” as they are known in the United States) until Election Day.
The deadline for voting by mail in North Carolina is November 10, Alaska is November 12, and in Washington state it is until November 23.
Washington and Alaska are relatively insignificant to the final outcome of the presidential election, as Washington is a strong Democratic base and Alaska a fairly solid base for Republicans, but that means that the full vote count will not be available for the next few days.
