JAKARTA, KOMPAS.TV – The Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD explained that from the beginning he became the Coordinating Minister for Policy, Law and Security, he had tried to contact close friends of Rizieq Shihab.

According to Mahfud MD, initially the Indonesian government would help in the Rizieq Shihab case in Saudi Arabia if necessary.

“Pak Fadli Zon, at first I was the police coordinator, I tried to contact close friends with Rizieq. I mean, I’ll help if needed, “wrote Mahfud MD on his Twitter account (6/11/2020).

Mahfud MD later said that they sent him a video that he uploaded to Twitter, containing Rizieq Shihab’s oath that he did not want to ask the government for help.

“But they sent me a video promising that he did not want help from the government. Look at this. What if we want to help but they reject us? How is it always wrong?” Mahfud wrote again.

Mahfud relayed this in response to Fadli Zon’s tweet comparing the government’s attitude towards the Rizieq Shihab case in Saudi Arabia to the Reynhard Sinaga case in England.

Mahfud also explained why the government was unable to help Rizieq.

“The context is that the government wants to help but the video has an answer. If we want to help, we have to have a document and sign it. How did we get that for a while other than an oath that you didn’t report the problem to the Indonesian Embassy? Where can we help without documents? “wrote Mahfud.
