Dicky explained that the IAR activity is a monitoring and evaluation mechanism related to one of the pillars of the 2005 revised international health regulations (IHR).
The objective is for each country to know the achievements and deficiencies in controlling its pandemic.
“So the invitation to the press conference is not in the sense of acknowledging Indonesia’s success in controlling its pandemic, but rather thanking it for having carried out the IAR review activity that was deemed ‘successful’,” Dicky said.

Furthermore, he revealed that IAR’s goal is not only to experience success, but also to experience challenges, obstacles, or failures in dealing with Covid-19.
“Going forward, the IAR results will reflect the actions that are being taken to prepare for and respond to the Covid-19 outbreak at the national level, to identify current best practices, gaps, problems and lessons,” said Dicky.
“Also to propose corrective actions in order to improve and strengthen a sustainable response in the Covid-19 pandemic. In addition, IAR’s findings and recommendations can contribute to improving emergency management,” he said.

Ideally, Dicky said, countries that have successfully handled the Covid-19 pandemic such as Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, China, Vietnam can report their IAR results as lessons learned for other countries.
“But of course it will also be useful to see the IAR results from a country that is still struggling like Indonesia. So that experts can discover future challenges and recommendations,” he said.

In the invitation, Health Minister Terawan will join three other health ministers, each from Thailand, Uzbekistan and South Africa.

In its letter, the WHO asked Terawan to share “the experiences of Indonesia that have successfully implemented the use of IAR Covid-19 at the national level.”
Terawan was also asked to share “important lessons learned during the IAR implementation in response to the Covid-19 outbreak.”
IAR Covid-19 is a species tool evaluation and monitoring in the management of Covid-19.

Meanwhile, in an official statement from the Ministry of Health, WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus is also scheduled to join the agenda.
