JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – PT Indomarco Prismatama (Indomaret) managing director Wiwiek Yusuf emphasized that his party is following the lead of the Indonesian Retail Entrepreneurs Association (Aprindo) regarding the unbridled calls to boycott French products.

This was transmitted by Wiwiek, in addition to responding to the action of a group of people who bought French products in a store in Indomaret and then burned them.

“This is very situational. As members of the Aprindo association, we try to follow Aprindo’s statements and instructions,” Wiwiek told Kompas.com on Thursday (May 11, 2020).

As for Aprindo’s attitude, it is to present a decision on the call to boycott French products to consumers. Aprindo respects the consumer’s decision to buy or not products from France that are sold in modern outlets.

According to Wiwiek, Aprindo also continues to coordinate with various parties on the issue of the boycott of French products.

“They represent the retailers and continue to communicate and coordinate with relevant officials and the police,” Wiwiek said.

Previously, a group of members of the mass organization of the Islamic Youth Movement (GPI) bought products considered French brands from Indomaret in Jalan Johar, Menteng. Purchased items such as mineral water, cookies, milk, and others.

They then took the goods they had purchased to the GPI office and then burned them.

The head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Menteng Sector Police, Commissioner Gozali Luhulima, said that the incident occurred on Wednesday (11/4/2020) yesterday afternoon.

However, the police only supervised and took no action because no criminal element was being committed.

“There is no element of criminal act because they bought, did not loot or sweeping. If we take action because it disrupts public order, we cannot, because the fire was in his own office, ”Gozali said.
