Jakarta, CNN Indonesia –

Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD reveals the controversy felt by the government regarding the award of Bintang Mahaputera to the former TNI commander general (Purn) Gatot Nurmantyo.

Through a tweet on social media, Mahfud said that he would still question whether or not Gatot received this honorary star.

“The government knows that the delivery or non-delivery of Bintang Mahaputera to Pak Gatot Nurmantyo (GN) should be questioned,” Mahfud was quoted as saying by CNNIndonesia.com through his Twitter account on Tuesday (03/11).

According to Mahfud, one of the controversies that will arise is the prejudice that the Mahaputera Star award is a step to silence Gatot, who currently disagrees with the government.

However, Mahfud added, if this award is not awarded, it would still be a problem because the government would be judged as unfair or discriminatory.

“If it is given, it is said to be silent, if not it is said to be discriminatory against critics. But Bintang Mahaputra is a right of Pak GN and Ms. Susi Pujiastuti,” he said.

Information regarding Bintang Mahaputera’s gift to Gatot himself was first revealed by Mahfud through his tweet.

Mahfud said that the presentation of the honorary star would be carried out by President Joko Widodo to coincide with the commemoration of Heroes’ Day on November 10 and 11.

Gatot himself, when confirmed, admitted that he did not know or had received any information about the award of the honorary star. He said that he was currently out of town so he had not received any information.

“We are out of town (for pilgrimage) so we don’t know yet,” Gatot said via text message.
