JAKARTA, KOMPAS.TV – President Joko Widodo confirmed that Indonesia’s growth will experience an economic recession in the third quarter of 2020.
Indonesia’s economic performance has slowed for two consecutive quarters.
“In the third quarter, maybe a day or two, we are still in the negative figure, our estimate is at minus 3, a little more,” President Joko Widodo said (2/11).
Despite negative growth, Jokowi said Indonesia’s growth was trending positively. Previously, in the second quarter, Indonesia’s economic growth was -5.32.
In the second quarter of 2020, Indonesia imposed a strict PSBB in several areas, including Jakarta as the center of government and business in Indonesia.
This condition slows down economic growth.

However, in the third quarter, PSBB’s policy has started to relax. Several business and entrepreneurial sectors have started to open up, although not all.
As a result, Indonesia’s growth improved from the second quarter, although it continues to grow negatively.
“It is an improving trend, a positive trend that should be emphasized when there is an announcement in BPS, an improving trend is a positive trend from -5.32 to -3 points,” he added.
Compared to other countries, Jokowi said that this condition was even better.
“And this is much better compared to other countries. But we should push this for the fourth quarter,” he concluded.
