They also expressed regret for the “call for assassination made by various leaders of other countries.” AFP referring to the tweet by former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad.

Mahathir Mohamad previously tweeted that Muslims have a “right to anger and kill millions of French citizens.”

This commotion is the result of President Emmanuel Macron’s comments on Islam and the defense of the publication of the cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad by Charlie Hebdo magazine in the name of freedom of expression.

On Friday (10/23), Macron said that Islam is “a religion that is experiencing a world crisis.” He issued this statement after the beheading incident of the history teacher, Samuel Paty, by Abdoullakh Abouyezidovitch (18). The incident was triggered by a discussion about the cartoon of Prophet Muhammad in his class.

Macron in his speech also called for a campaign against radical Islamic groups.

However, the French president’s comments on Islam were considered offensive to Muslims and sparked anger and protests in various parts of the world, in addition to boycotting French products.
