No minimum wage increase, KSPI: Workers will strike Work worse Page all

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The president of the Indonesian Trade Union Confederation (KSPI), said Iqbal, said that if there is no increase in the minimum wage in 2021, the labor actions will get bigger and stronger.

Also, this happened in the midst of rejection. all the law Job Creation Law.

According to Said, the workers could end up making a decision on a national strike. This is because the issue of wages is a problem at the company or factory level.

“It is different from October 6 to 8, which used the base of the demonstration. This national strike will be even more devastating, ”Said Iqbal said in a written statement on Friday (10/30/2020).

Said said workers and companies could propose salary increase negotiations to be held simultaneously in each company.

However, if it ends Deadpoint or stalemate, workers have already met the requirements established in Law No. 13 of 2003 on employment to strike.

“Simultaneous production stop throughout Indonesia. That may be in Law No. 13 of 2003,” Said Iqbal said.

“The Minister of Labor is the person most responsible for a national strike,” he said.

Said suspects that Labor Minister (Menaker) Ida Fauziah lied about the deal with the national wage council.

It received a report from members of the national wage council of elements of the workers’ union that there is no agreement regarding the minimum wage in 2021.

“So what basis is the government using to issue a circular asking the governor not to increase the minimum wage?” Said Iqbal said.

“It is true that Menaker lied against the arguments in issuing the circular,” he said.

In addition, he said, several labor elements rejected the Menaker circular. He asked the governor to ignore the circular.

The argument, according to Said Iqbal, is that this is not the first time that Indonesia has experienced an economic recession linked to a rise in minimum wages.

He said that in 1998, for example, Indonesia’s economic growth was minus 17.6 percent, while the inflation rate approached 78 percent.

Said said the existing union, along with the government and employers’ organizations, agreed not to raise the minimum wage amid a recession.

“But then there was a hard and massive struggle by the workers to reject the decision not to go up,” said Said Iqbal.

Because, the agreement does not represent the aspirations that are being developed at the factory level. “There was a massive action that was generalized in all regions,” he said.

At the time, Said said President Habibie made the decision to increase the minimum wage by about 16 percent.

With the same analogy, according to Said, current economic growth and inflation are considered to be lower than in 1998. This year it is estimated at minus 8 percent and inflation at 3 percent.

On this basis, the KSPI proposes a 2021 minimum wage increase of 8 percent.

However, if it is considered difficult, the salary council and the regional government can negotiate the number of increases.

“Also, today there are still many companies operating as usual. So don’t be defeated, all companies cannot pay the increase in the minimum wage, “said Said Iqbal.

“Even if there are those who cannot afford it, the law has left room to postpone the minimum wage,” he said.
