Bisnis.com, JAKARTA – Former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad issued a clarification on his views on the events that took place in France. He admitted that his blog writings had been misinterpreted.
He claimed that his blog posts were incorrectly translated and out of context.
“I’m really sick of the wrong effort in describing and taking the context out of what I wrote on my blog yesterday,” Mahathir said via his blog in Kuala Lumpur, as quoted by Between, Friday (10/30/2020).
He said that those who misunderstand only highlighted a part of paragraph 12 that says: “Muslims have the right to anger and kill millions of French people for past massacres.“
According to him, the steps of a series of parts that only focused on one part of the message made the integrity of the message transmitted in his writing disappear. Meanwhile, the truncated writing changed the actual message that Mahathir wanted to convey.
“They stopped there and hinted that he was promoting a French massacre.” he said.
According to him, this made him considered a promoter of violence in various social networks such as Twitter and Facebook.
“Due to the cycles in and out of context of people who capture publications Me, a complaint was made against me and I was accused of promoting violence and others on Facebook and Twitter, ”he said.
As a result, Facebook and Twitter also removed the post, although Mahathir tried to explain the context of his writing.
“There is nothing I can do about Facebook and Twitter’s decision to remove destination I. In my opinion, since they are providers of freedom of expression, they should at least allow me to explain and defend my position, “he said.
