French terror continues, attacks on churches and consulates

The assault case around the Basilica of Notre Dame, Nice, French immediately in the global spotlight. The attack left three people dead and one of them beheaded by the perpetrator who used a knife to carry out the action.

French President Emmanuel Macron condemned the act of terror. He called it a form of insanity.

“Islamic terrorist madness,” Macron was quoting CNN, Thursday (29/10).


Macron then declared that France will always fight extremism and terrorism. He also claimed that France would still uphold the values ​​of secularism.

Attack

The world highlights the incident of the attack that left three dead in the vicinity of the Church of Notre Dame, Nice, France. There were several other people injured.

Quoting AFP, the attack was allegedly carried out by immigrants from Tunisia, namely Brahim Aouissaoui. He is still 21 years old. So far, Brahim has been arrested by local officials.

AFP reported that the perpetrator arrived in Europe for the first time on the island of Lampedusa, Italy. He was quarantined by local authorities in accordance with the corona virus prevention protocol.

Upon his release, Brahim was ordered to leave Italy. He then arrived in France in early October until the Nice attack took place.

The attack quickly became the center of attention of the world because it happened when Macron was criticized by many state leaders.

Macron has been criticized for failing to ban Charlie Hebdo from publishing cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad. Several leaders of Middle Eastern countries were angry and criticized Macron’s attitude. There was even a teacher from France who was beheaded on October 17 after discussing the cartoon.

Nice Mayor Christian Estrosi called this attack a “fascist Islamist attack”.

“The perpetrator kept repeating ‘Allahu Akbar’ even when he was being treated because he was injured as a result of the arrest,” Estrosi told reporters at the scene.

Improved security

The French government increased the level of security after the attack. A total of 7,000 army personnel were deployed to protect the church in France.

President Emmanuel Macron declared that France was under attack. He said that after the murder of three people in Nice.

“Once again this morning, three of our citizens were victims in Nice and it is very clear that France is under attack,” Macron quoted CNN as saying on Thursday (10/29).

Furthermore, the Tunisian attorney general has admitted that he will carry out an investigation related to the case. They will carry out an investigation after a Tunisian citizen is reported as a suspect in the attack.

“A commitment has been made to carry out an investigation into the complaints of Tunisian citizens committing terrorist acts abroad,” Deputy Attorney General Mohsen Dali told AFP on Thursday (10/29).

The UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, expressed his condolences for France and at the same time condemned the attack. The same was said by the leaders of the European countries.

“I strongly condemn today’s atrocious attack that took place on the Notre Dame Basilica in Nice,” Guterres said through spokesman Stephane Dujarric quoted to AFP on Thursday (10/29).

The leaders of the member countries of the European Union also condemned the acts of terrorism in Nice, France. There are 27 countries that are members of the European Union.

The statement was made by the President of the Council of the European Union, Charles Michel.

“The leaders of Europe are shocked and saddened by the terrorist attacks in France. We condemn this attack,” said Charles.

Assault on Arabia

Meanwhile, a citizen of Saudi Arabia attacked the security guards of the French consulate in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia with a knife. Mecca police said the attacker was a Saudi national, but the nationality of the consulate guard who suffered minor injuries was not identified.

“The attacker was arrested by the Saudi security forces immediately after the attack. The guard was taken to hospital and his life is not in danger,” the French embassy in Arabia said in a statement.

The guard tightened after the attack. AFP reported that police officers from the French consulate in Jeddah even prohibited residents from taking pictures in the surroundings.
