Jakarta –
Tottenham Hotspur failed to take advantage of dominance throughout the match for a positive result at the Antwerp venue. The Lilywhites collapsed 0-1.
Visiting the BosuilStadion, Friday (10/30/2020) WIB early morning, in the continuation of the Europa League, Tottenham seems more dominant after kick off. But it is precisely this dominance that is a problem for Tottenham.
José Mourinho’s team was confused when it came to penetrating the host’s defense. Meanwhile, Antwerp was efficient and managed to score a goal from Lior Refaelov in the 29th minute.
With this result, Tottenham remained in second place in Group J with three points from two games, winning on goal difference from LASK. Antwerp leads with six points, while the interim position is held by Ludogorets Razgrad without points.
The course of the match
Tottenham immediately tried to control the ball after starting football. Gareth Bale’s shot in the seventh minute was still not threatening because it just went wide. Several players also conducted experiments from afar, to no avail.
Antwerp threatened to return Lior Refaelov’s action in the 23rd minute. His shot after passing Harry Winks was still sliding over the goal.
Carlos Vinicius had a chance for Tottenham two minutes later, after a pass from Dele Alli. Richie De Laet made him fumble the ball before throwing threats.
OBJECTIVE! Antwerp took the lead in the 29th minute. Diumerci Mbokani stole the ball from Ben Davies and threw it at Refaelov. Refaelov comfortably beat Hugo Lloris at point-blank range.
Not only does Antwerp look good for stealing goals, it can also make it difficult for Tottenham to get into the penalty area. Bale’s shot in the 39th minute still went off, the first half ended without a change on the scoreboard.
Antwerp nearly doubled the lead in the second minute of the second half. Mbokani grabbed the ball from Davies again, but this time he was stopped by Davinson Sánchez’s precise tackle.
Another chance for the hosts in the 53rd minute! Refaelov stabbed behind Tottenham’s defensive line and found Mbokani in front of goal. Mbokani’s shot from close range went wide!
New Tottenham really threatened in the 62nd minute. The orderly collaboration of Lucas Moura and Erik Lamela led to a crossover with Son Heung-min. Abdoulaye Seck still managed to block Son’s trap.
Antwerp has another chance in the 74th minute. Sánchez lost possession in his own half, as Pieter Gerkens found a free Simen Juklerod. But Gerkens was unable to finish off a shot that went flying despite facing the goal without pressure.
Two minutes later, it’s Vestraete’s turn to stab, run through the center, and shoot. Davies easily read the situation and blocked the ball.
Tottenham kept trying to penetrate Antwerp’s defense and couldn’t find a way. Son’s kick that was silenced by Jeremy Gelin marked the end of this match without another goal.
