“The attack took place in or near the city’s Notre Dame church and the police arrested the perpetrator,” Nice Mayor Christian Estrosi said in a statement on his Twitter account.
Estrosi, as reported by Reuters on Thursday (10/29/2020), firmly claimed that this attack was an act of terrorism. (Also read: Indonesian politicians call the mind of the dwarf Macron Let the cartoon of the prophet appear)
Meanwhile, police said two people were confirmed dead in the attack and several were injured. A police source said there was another victim, a woman, who was beheaded.
The attacks occurred while France was still recovering from the beheading of a Chechen man. The perpetrator said he wanted to punish Paty for showing cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad to his students in civics lessons.
It was not immediately clear what the motive for the Nice attack was, or if it had anything to do with cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad. (Also read: Khamenei: Macron is stupid, insulting the prophet Muhammad should be a crime in France)
As is well known, since Paty’s murder, French officials, supported by many ordinary citizens, have reaffirmed the right to exhibit cartoons and the images have been widely displayed in demonstrations as a form of solidarity with Paty.
That has sparked outrage in Muslim-majority countries, with some governments accusing French President Emmanuel Macron of pursuing an anti-Islamic agenda.
