Jakarta, CNN Indonesia –

Secretary General of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) Yahya Cholil Staquf stated that the caliphate would cause countries, including Islamic countries, to dissolve.

“If we continue with the vision that regards the caliphate as an ideal, all of this must be dissolved. Not only the Republic of Indonesia, but also Malaysia, Brunei, Saudi Arabia dissolved into a caliphate. This will cause an apocalyptic disaster for the entire world.” Yahya said at an international seminar held. Ansor-BPIP Youth Movement, Wednesday (10/28).

It is known, one of the popular conceptions of the caliphate is to unite all the countries in a single Islamic caliphate power.

However, Yahya admits that there is a long history of conflict between the state and certain groups of Muslims, both in the world and in Indonesia.

“Because there is actually a problem,” he said.

For example, the rebellion of Darul Islam / Indonesian Islamic Army (DI / TII), which he called the same as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

In addition, there are cases of terrorism in the Borobudur bombing (1985) and the Garuda aircraft hijacking (1981) by Islamic extremists.

“In fact, voters as a result of the 1955 elections have been fiercely arguing to debate the choice between Islamic ideology or Pancasila as the basis of the state,” Yahya added.

The Nahdlatul Ulama party, he said, was already thinking about finding a way to solve this problem according to the times.

“So that we not only take and apply the jurisprudence produced in the Middle Ages or past centuries, but it must be in line with the context of current realities,” he said.

On the same occasion, the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD stated that Indonesia is fortunate to have strong moderate Islamic organizations such as Nahdlatul Ulama and Muhammadiyah.

“We are very fortunate to have strong moderate Islamic organizations like Nahdlatul Ulama and Muhammadiah, who continue to express their opinion that Pancasila will always be in line with Islam and the state,” he said.

Mahfud also agreed with the views of the fourth president of the Republic of Indonesia and former PBNU president Abdurrahman Wahid alias Gus Dur about Pancasila, which can protect both Muslims and non-Muslims.

“[Pancasila] According to democracy, a reflection of the type of non-authoritarian government, justice and equality that reflects the equitable distribution of wealth and equality before the law, ”he said.

“Wahid further stated that Pancasila and Islam in Indonesia are like two sides of a mutually reinforcing coin, with the aim of guaranteeing and protecting the basic rights of all people, both Muslim and non-Muslim,” Mahfud continued.
