France withdrew its ambassador from Turkey after Erdogan called Macron mentally ill.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, ISTANBUL-French President Emmanuel Macron recalled his ambassador to Turkey on Saturday (10/24).

This call was referred to as a response to the words of Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan, who said that Macron needed mental help because of his attitude towards Muslims. “Anger and humiliation are not methods,” Macron explained. Reuters, Saturday (10/24).

The French leader is currently in discussion for declaring war on “Islamic separatism”, which he believes is taking over several Muslim communities in France.

Macron’s attitude is based on the beheading of a teacher who was allegedly attacked by an Islamic radical in retaliation for the use of cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad in the classroom.

“What is this man named Macron’s problem with Muslims and Islam? Macron needs treatment at the mental level, “Erdogan said in a speech in the city of Kayseri, in central Turkey.

“What else can you say to a head of state who does not understand freedom of belief and who behaves like this with the millions of people who live in his country and who are members of a different religion?” Erdogan added.

Turkey and France are members of the NATO military alliance, but clash over issues such as Syria and Libya, maritime jurisdiction in the eastern Mediterranean and the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh.

“France has brought together European partners, who also demand that France stop its dangerous adventure in the Mediterranean and in the region,” said a statement from Macron’s office.

Erdogan has two months to respond or face action, he added, noting the absence of messages of condolence from the Turkish leader following the death of the history teacher last week.

Erdogan is a devout Muslim and since the Islam-based AK Party first came to power in 2002, he has been trying to make Islam the dominant policy in Turkey, a predominantly Muslim but constitutionally secular country.

The Turkish president also said on October 6 that Macron’s comments on the threat from Islam were “a clear provocation” and showed “irreverence.”
