Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Brazilian health authority, Anvisa, offers shocking news. A volunteer who participated in the Covid-19 vaccine clinical trial, which was developed by AstraZeneca and the University of Oxford, has died.
Quoted from Reuters, CNN Brazil reported that the man was 28 years old. He lived in Rio de Janeiro and died of complications from Covid-19.
Unfortunately, Anvisa did not elaborate. This is because the institution is subject to medical confidentiality.
The Federal University of Sao Paulo, which helps coordinate clinical trials in Brazil, said separately that the volunteer was a Samba citizen, but did not specify where he lived.
The university submits the continuation of the essay to an independent review board. So far, 8,000 of the 10,000 volunteers who have been administered and given the first dose of the vaccine are spread over six cities.
Even so, as cited in AFP, the volunteers who died were doctors. He works treating Covid-19 patients in the emergency room.
Local media said that he was a young doctor and that he had just finished his studies last year. Before hiring him, he was healthy and kept working.
Meanwhile, AstraZeneca declined to comment. Oxford in a statement said the incident had been independently reviewed and would continue with clinical trials.
“After careful evaluation of death cases in Brazil, there is no concern for the safety of clinical trials and an independent review other than the government recommended that trials continue,” he wrote again.
Previously, Brazil had plans to buy vaccines from the UK and produce them. China’s Sinovac vaccine is also being tested in the country.
In September, testing of the experimental vaccines for AstraZeneca and Oxford was discontinued. This is because a volunteer in England is suffering from a mysterious illness.
