Barcelona won a landslide victory over Ferencvaros in their opening match in the 2020/21 Champions League. They won 5-1 despite closing the game with 10 men after Gerard Piqué was sent off.

The Barcelona vs Ferencvaros match on matchday 1 of Group G of the Champions League at the Camp Nou, on Wednesday (10/21/2020) at the WIB in the morning, was one-sided. The hosts seemed so dominant with possession of the ball reaching 62% and firing 22 shots throughout the match.

In the first half, Barcelona went 2-0 up thanks to goals from Lionel Messi and Ansu Fati. Philippe Coutinho then added Barcelona’s lead early in the second half.

Ferencvaros had time to reduce the distance by taking a penalty from Ihor Kharatin in the 68th minute. The penalty came from Gerard Piqué’s offense that also resulted in a red card for the Barça defender.

Despite completing the remaining matches with 10 people, Barcelona was still able to score goals. Pedri and Ousmane Dembele scored in the last 10 minutes of the match to seal the victory Blaugrana.

With this result, Barcelona temporarily leads the Group G classification with three points. They stand out for their goal difference over Juventus, which a few hours earlier beat Dynamo Kiev 2-0.

The course of the match

Barcelona dominated the game from the start. Barcelona had the first chance in the 17th minute. Lionel Messi gets space outside the penalty area and opens a shot. However, Denes Dibusz was still able to protect himself from the ball.

Ferencvaros had threatened Barcelona’s goal in the 20th minute. Isael, who ran into the Barcelona penalty area, received the ball from Tokmac Nguen. Isael then fired a corner kick but the ball hit the crossbar.

Free kick for Barcelona on the right. Messi handed the ball to Philippe Coutinho, who then shot for the first time. Courtois’ effort went off the net.

Penalty for Barcelona! The home team is sanctioned with a penalty in the 27th minute. The referee signaled the point after Messi was violated by Adnan Kovacevic. Messi, who progressed as executor, successfully fulfilled his duties to lead Barcelona 1-0.

Ferencvaros counterattacked in the 60th minute. Nguen managed to get into Barcelona’s penalty area although he was deflected to the right. He then handed the ball to Isael who was in front of the penalty area. However, Isael’s kick still bounced off the crossbar.

Counterattack becomes Ferencvaros’ weapon. This time, the visitors counterattack in the 68th minute resulted in a penalty and a red card for Gerard Piqué. The Barcelona defender brought down Nguen as the Ferencvaros forward was about to open fire in the penalty area.

Ihor Kharatin stepped forward as the executioner of the penalty. He tricked Neto into bringing Ferencvaros to close the gap.

Kharatin’s goal made Ferencvaros more eager to attack. Ferencvaros had threatened Barcelona’s goal in the 75th minute. Somalia passes the ball to Mak who is on the left side of the penalty area and shoots a corner kick. However, the ball only hits the outside of the goal net.

Barcelona extended the lead in the 82nd minute. From the counterattack, Ousmane Dembélé, who moved on the right side, dribbled into the penalty area. He then released the bait which was completed by Pedri.

Barcelona sank Ferencvaros even further in the 89th minute. Messi brings the ball into the penalty area and can be closely watched by Ferencvaros players. However, he was still able to drop the bait that Dembele later ended up turning into a goal.

In injury time, Barcelona almost scored a goal. Messi throws a free kick and the ball goes over the Ferencvaros squad. Dibusz can still drive the ball into the upper corner of the goal.
