The Indonesian Student Executive Board (BEM SI) rejected the offer of police mediation to meet with the Presidential Palace. You see, BEM SI insisted that President Jokowi meet with them.
“Before we communicated with the police who acted as a bridge, but we did not. In the end we refused,” BEM SI Regional Coordinator for the Jabodetabek-Banten Alliance, Bagas Maropindra, told reporters on Tuesday (10/20/ 2020).
They carried out an action around the horse statue, Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat, which is not far from the Merdeka Palace in Jalan Medan Merdeka Utara, Jakarta. It is known that President Jokowi was not at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta, but at the Bogor Palace to meet with the Japanese Prime Minister.
BEM SI still wants to meet Jokowi and refuses to only meet Jokowi staff. Police, Bagas said, offered to let two people from BEM SI meet the Jokowi staff.
“We don’t want it. The president should have left,” Bagas said.
