President Jokowi’s name is immortalized as a street name in the United Arab Emirates

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – President Joko Widodo’s name has been immortalized as a street name in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE)

The inauguration of President Joko Widodo Street was presided over by the President of the Abu Dhabi Executive Office, Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, on Monday (10/19/2020) at 4:45 pm local time.

The event was attended by the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), as well as several officials from the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Municipality of Abu Dhabi.

“Together they saw the unveiling of the red curtain that previously closed the name of the street,” said Nur Ibrahim, Coordinator of the Information and Information Function of the Indonesian Embassy in Abu Dhabi, through an official written statement from the Embassy of Indonesia. The appointment of President Joko Widodo’s Road reflects the close relationship between Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates, as well as a form of respect by the Government of the United Arab Emirates towards Jokowi in advancing bilateral relations between the two countries.

President Joko Widodo Street is located on one of the main roads, which divides ADNEC (Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center) and the Embassy Area. The area is occupied by several diplomatic representation offices.

The name of this street was formerly Al Ma’arid Street (Indonesian for exhibition / exhibition) which connected Jalan Rabdan with Jalan Tunb Al Kubra.

Meanwhile, Indonesian Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates Husin Bagis expressed his hope that Road’s appointment of President Joko Widodo in Abu Dhabi will further strengthen and enhance the stronger bilateral relations between Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates.

“The naming of the streets of President Joko Widodo in Abu Dhabi increases the number of names of Indonesian figures abroad,” said Husin.

“Like Sukarno Street in Rabat, Morocco, Jalan Muhammad Hatta in Harleem, the Netherlands, Jalan Raden Adjeng Kartini in Amsterdam, and Jalan Munir in The Hague,” he said.
