The president and director of MRT Jakarta, William Sabandar, in a virtual discussion on Monday (10/19/2020) explained that the Phase II Jakarta MRT project is funded by the Japanese government through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA ), the mechanism used is the STEP Loan or Linked Loan.
This means that this project can only be worked by Japanese companies as the main contractor. Without interest from Japanese companies, he now proposes that this project be carried out by companies from other countries.
“If the provisions are due to the mechanism linked loan The contractor must be from Japan. In fact, this loan requirement requires us to be Japan’s prime contractor, “he said.
Silvia Halim, construction director for PT MRT Jakarta, added that if other state-owned companies had the opportunity, the MRT Jakarta project would be challenged. Until now, he admitted that there had been seduction from various countries.

However, this step has not been taken because it is still linked to the JICA loan mechanism. The option currently being discussed is the direct appointment of the governments of Indonesia and Japan.
William Sabandar added that not only Japanese contractors can work on the MRT. National contractors also have the capacity if given the opportunity.
“Previously mentioned, for example, China, Korea, countries like Great Britain that are interested. But do not forget that there are national contractors who have been working on both package 1 and package 2. If we have physical experience in phase 1 , there is Wijaya Karya, then there is Hutama Karya, there is Jaya Konstruksi, Adhi Karya. If our train system has INKA, we are actually quite resolved, “he explained.
