The arrest of a member of the United States, a group critical of the government, comes amid a controversy over the “intellectual actor” behind the riots at a demonstration against the general law of the Employment Creation Act.
We deny the allegations that they played a role in the riots, and we label these arrests part of an “old pattern” of scapegoats who oppose the government.
They are Juliana, Devi, Khairi Amri and Wahyu Rasari Putri from WE Medan; Anton Permana, Syahganda Nainggolan, Jumhur Hidayat and Kingkin at WE Jakarta.
Officially detained
The police also officially detained Jumhur, Syahganda and Anton Permana. The three followed the five people who had previously been named suspects. The arrest was carried out because it was believed that they were spreading hate speech and incitement prior to the demonstration against the Ciptaker Act.

“Already detained, he has become a suspect,” said on Wednesday (10/14/2020) the head of the Public Information Office of the National Police Headquarters, Brigadier General Awi Setiyono in the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Police, Jalan Trunojoyo, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta.
Tomorrow more information will be delivered on the appointment of the three figures by the National Police Headquarters.
Police said the arrest of the WE figure began with evidence of a conversation on a WhatsApp group.
In the conversation, it is alleged that the goal was to spread hate speech and incite people to demonstrate.
“The conversation on the WhatsApp group was basically related to incitement and hate speech based on SARA,” Awi said on Tuesday (10/13/2020).
The content of the conversation was called Awi, “horrified, it is appropriate that anarchy occurs in the field.”
“So that people who are apologizing do not really understand that it will ignite. When planned in such a way as to lead to destruction, everything is clearly exposed in WA,” added Awi.
Awi emphasized that the strict action of the authorities was not favoritism.
“We never broadcast this from where-from anyway. Yeah, we just happened to catch some of them in America,” he said.
Another piece of evidence obtained by the police is the proposed WE declaration in Medan, North Sumatra.
In this case, these US officials were charged under Article 45 A, paragraph 2 of the Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 19 of 2014 on ITE and / or Article 160 of the Penal Code regarding sedition, with the threat of a maximum prison sentence of 6 years or a maximum fine of one billion IDR.
