Thailand announced a state of emergency decree after manifestation on a large scale in Bangkok.
The decree was signed directly by the Prime Minister of Thailand, Prayuth Chan-ocha. The decree prohibits people from gathering due to the corona pandemic.
In the decree, the government accused many people of inciting society to cause chaos in Bangkok.
“There is a behavior that influences, and there are reasons to believe that there is a violent behavior that affects the security of the State, the security of life or property of the people and the State,” says the decree. Nikkei Asia, Thursday (10/15).
The government further claimed that what the protesters had done at the time was not a peaceful action.
Such a situation, the government said, could also worsen the internal economic situation that had already deteriorated due to the pandemic.
“This is not a peaceful meeting ratified by the constitution. It also has a direct impact on the control of Covid-19, which directly impacts the economy of a vulnerable nation. It is very important to take immediate corrective measures and stop this behavior in a way effective so that the law is respected and the public is orderly.
With the decree, the government prohibits the gathering of five or more people in Bangkok. Authorities have the power to prohibit people from entering any area they designate.
In addition, the decree prohibits the publication of news, other media and electronic information that contains messages that may cause fear or deliberately distort the information.
Thai state television announced that the government had issued an emergency decree for reasons of maintaining internal peace and order.
The protesters have called for the overthrow of Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha, as well as a new constitution. They also called for the reform of the monarchy of King Maha Vajiralongkorn.
A royal caravan carrying Queen Suthida previously met with the protesters. They gave the queen a three-finger salute.
The queen smiled and waved back at the protesters. On the other hand, the king’s caravan passed the road without incident on their way to the ceremony at the Temple of the Emerald Buddha near the Grand Palace.
