TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – A video showing an ambulance being shot by the police with tear gas went viral on social media. The ambulance was reportedly shot down in the Cikini area of central Jakarta during a demonstration against the Employment Creation Law on Tuesday, October 13, 2020.
Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief Commissioner Heru Novianto said officers initially asked the ambulance to stop. But according to him, the ambulance driver ignored the orders.

“In fact, stepping on the gas, even wanting to hit a member, causing suspicions from the agents,” Heru said when confirmed, on Wednesday, October 14, 2020.
Heru said the police had arrested up to three ambulance officers. Currently, the three are said to be still being investigated at Polda Metro Jaya.
In the circulating video, the ambulance appears to be stopped by policemen dressed in black, like those in a Brimob unit. Suddenly the ambulance backed up. Police appeared to chase and fire on the ambulance.
Several community organizations that are members of the National Anti-Communist Alliance (ANAK NKRI) held demonstrations on October 13, 2020, such as the 212 Alumni Brotherhood, the Islamic Defenders Front, and the Fatwa National Guard Movement of Ulama (GNPF). The action titled 1310 rejected the Omnibus Job Creation Act that was approved by the House of Representatives on Monday, October 5. The action ended in chaos at various points in Jakarta.
